This matcha bowl is glazed in a dramatic combination of shino-style and metallic glazes.
Made primarily of white ash and feldspar, classic Shino glazes are white and opaque. They are applied thickly, either independently or on top of one another, then fired at a fairly low temperature. After firing, the surface develops a unique texture, often containing distinctive dimples and pinholes. The pinholes and frothy white color of the shino-style glaze on this striking chawan are nicely complimented by the dark metallic glaze underneath it.
NOTE: Each of these matcha bowls features this glaze in the colors shown. Bear in mind that each individual tea bowl will be its own unique expression of this glaze/color palette.
