This wonderful nerikomi teacup will ‘wow’ your tea drinking friends. At first glance they might think that you are using a ‘wooden’ teacup but once they hold one they will discover that these are made from very fine, light-weight but durable stoneware. Nerikomi is the technique that creates a marbleized pattern in the clay. The clay feels wonderfully cool and the faceted design of the cup is pleasingly secure to hold.
Kenji has built this teacup using thin layers of cream and black colored clays. When the clay is as he wants it, he skillful makes angle-cuts into the exterior of the teacup body and removes small slices of clay. This slicing reveals a wondrous marbleized pattern. It is a magical and dramatic effect which is never really the same in any two nerikomi pieces.
This teacup will please the eye for years with its variety of cuts and subsequent color combinations, picking up the varying light of the seasons.
